Business trip to Nigeria, how safe?

I am due to go on a business trip to Nigeria in the near future. As I have heard some scary things about the country on more than one occasion I have to admit to being just a little bit anxious. Are there any folks here who have been to Nigeria? How safe is it really?

That largely depends on the area you will be visiting, but of course also on the activities you are going to be carrying out while you are in Nigeria. Avoid themes like politics and religion at any cost while you are there, as this can be unpleasant for all parties. As long as you don't visit one of the areas where there are conflicts, I am sure you won't loose your head though.

Eh... Did you not know that many foreign tourists have actually been kidnapped in Nigeria over the last year and this year? Check out the warnings with your Foreign Ministry and I am pretty certain they will advise you against going to Nigeria at all. What is your business, if you are going there on a business trip?

I admit that it has been a long while since I have been to Nigeria (I prefer to not count!) but I never experienced any such problems and while I am aware that certain areas of Nigeria are always dangerous in one way or another, I think that you can indeed have a safe trip to Nigeria!
