Car rental in Orlando, FL, why so popular?

I will be going to Orlando, Florida soon with the whole family to do the whole Disney World experience and so on. I am sure that the kids are going to have great fun, and I am hoping that me and my wife will have some too. At least, Orlando looks like there is lots to do. But please tell me, why is car rental so popular in Orlando?

Perhaps it is because Orlando is a huge city. If you do not have your own car with you when you arrive in Orlando, you will have a problem if you have to rely solely on public transport. Remember - while there is a bus system over there, it is a pain to use, and will take all the fun away from your vacation. So how are you planning to get to Orlando in the first place?

I am hoping to go to Orlando myself in the near future and I would really like to hear from someone who knows the city. My plan was to go by plane (I have really no other option). On topic, I would probably rent a car at the airport straight off, but I would like to know if the airport is actually in Orlando, and what I can expect if I want to reach down town Orlando?

Hi there! Orlando International Airport is located somewhere south west of downtown Orlando. You will be able to drive there with no problems if you are renting a car. What is nice to know is that, while the airport requires a bit of a drive into the center, it is located quite close to all the major attractions.
