I recently got an idea of going for several weeks to Lebanon and then to Syria. However, there were some problems between the two countries, so I would appreciate any information regarding the safety of traveling there and the possibility of crossing from Lebanon to Syria. I really need some tips, as I am very eager to visit that region.

Now that are not the two countries I would be going to. There indeed were violence problems and northern border with Syria is closed for crossing. If you decide to go to Lebanon, limit your movements in the evenings and at night. Also, be sure that you carry personal identity documentation at all times. You may try to cross the border from the south, but dont go south of the Litani River, the Bekaa Valley and Mount Lebanon. Syria is very restrictive regarding the visitors. If you are an American you will not be able to enter Syria via border crossings from the countries in the region without a visa issued at the Syrian Embassy in Washington , D.C. In any case, make sure you take good care should you decide to risk and travel there.
