Driver or tour guide in Damascus

I am going to the largest city in Syria and its capitol of course, Damascus. I really like this town from what I heard or read about, and I am finally about to see it up close and personal, if I may use this term, LOL. I have no idea which is the best way to get to know the city taking a driver or get a tour guide? Recommendations I am willing to take!

Hmm, what to answer to you on this one? As far as I know taxi drivers can be also a tour guides, but there lies a trick-how not to get robbed?! Although who am I to tell you I had arranged with my 8day Damascus tour. If you are by some chance considering being your own driver-thinking to rent a car if its possible, I am not sure thats a good idea. People in Damascus are famous about need for speed plus streets are quite tricky.
