From Montverde to Arenal - How bad the road is?

I have heard some really disturbing stories about the road from Montverde to Arenal! Like it is full of potholes, bumps, there are no signs on the road etc… How I am now going to drive from this place to another? Is it a better solution just to go by bus? Is it really that bad?

The road is awful, I though we gonna be literally swallowed by the potholes! Anyway, if you plan to go by your own car or a rented one, just make time to go, and depart early, so you don’t get too stressed out. Btw, my strongest advice is to hire a chauffeur (a driver), so you can enjoy the drive along. And don’t forget to try pizza at Johnny’s (along the way), it’s the best!
