I am thinking about going to Lima because I know there are great sights, museums, churches and the weather in winter is also good. However, some of my friends are trying to make me change my mind by telling me that Lima is a dangerous place to go to. Tourists are often being pick-pocketed, most of the hotels are outside the city Is this really the case?

It is true that Lima is a dangerous, dirty, noisy city. Its better not to go alone. The best place to stay is Miraflores as all of the sights are close by. Then, use only licensed taxis, they can be found at the hotel. They are more expensive but 100 safer. Never wear expensive jewelry, big watches while walking down the streets. Use tour guides or companies to visit downtown. Lima abounds in architecture. Narrow streets, old churches and houses protected by forged iron gates are well worth seeing. They are all painted in the old style paint colors, mostly pastel pink; yellow and they give the area some warmth and make it more beautiful.
