Hiking in greater Denver area in the fall?

We have been considering a nice but short vacation for the fall, and I think that hiking in the greater Denver area might be an option. Are there any travelers here who have done something like this and would you be able to tell me more about the possibilities? Thanks for your answers!

What can I say? The fall is definitely the right time to visit Denver for hiking! The weather and temperatures are extremely pleasant and the fall colors will impress anyone! There are many hiking trails in the area, and you will find something to do regardless of whether you are a beginning or experienced hiker.

My husband and I are preparing to go hiking near Denver next spring. I think that it is already too late to enjoy a fall vacation there this year, so we will have to wait a bit. But to be honest I would like to do a bit more than just hiking and it would be great if you could give some tips on what else there is to do in Denver.

Outdoor activities and sport are what Denver is most well known for, let's be clear about that. There are no major attractions in the area, other than that. If you are looking for nice restaurants, or things like shopping malls and the like, then they are around of course, but that is not the kind of thing that I am into...
