Hi! I am going to Tswalu Kalahari reserve. My girlfriend didn’t want to come with me aand I am going there with my friend. The two of us love adventure and we agreed to make most of this trip. One of the ways to kill time in a desert is riding. Is horse riding available in Tswalu Kalahari Reserve? Please do not tell me it’s not!

I think that your girlfriend made a mistake by not accepting your offer because it is an offer that can’t be rejected. It is not an ordinary trip to another city. It is so exotic and people make such trip very rarely – some of them go there once for a lifetime and some never go there in spite of their wish to see it. Horse riding is available in Tswalu Kalahari reserve. However, I think that you won’t be allowed to ride on your own if you know what I mean. The two of you should be accompanied by the locals who know the terrain better than you.

Tswalu Kalahari reserve is a great place and it is great that you are going there. It is one of the most luxury reserves and it offers all the services and a good hotel would. Horse riding is one of the, of course. It is very good to ride across the desert. It reminds of a scene from a good film. However, you can’t go riding alone. There are guides who won some qualifications and they must follow you on your adventure. If you got lost, you wouldn’t know the way back. Besides, the area outside reserve is not considered very safe.

Horse riding has become exceptionally popular at Tswalu and the stables were very busy this festive season, with a wonderful giraffe sighting on the Christmas morning ride, followed by buffalo sightings a few days later. Guests loved the thrill of being out on horseback, part of their natural surroundings.

The Tswalu stables now have15 horses varying of size, colour and breed. The breeds include Shire, Arab X, Appaloosa X, Saddler X, Boerperd, Friesian X, Quarter horse X and Pinto. We also have some retired racehorses from the Oppenheimer stud farm. Their sizes vary from 146cm (14.3H) to 172cm (17.1H). Most of the horses are suitable for any type of rider but we do have a few that need more experienced riders.
