How far is Gatineau from Ottawa?

I have a relative who lives in Canada. I am going to visit him next month and I am looking forward to seeing the country. He lives in a town called Gatineau. At the same time, my friends will be in Ottawa so I would like to spend some time with them as well. How far is Gatineau from Ottawa?

Gatineau is located on the northern bank of the Ottawa River, just across the city of Ottawa. The two of them make a single Metropolitan area. They are situated within Canada's National Capital Region. They are close and you can travel from one place to another many times a day.

You can use bus, taxi or some other means of transportation to travel back and forth. You have to know that Gatineau and Ottawa have two different public transportation systems and bus lines. OC Transpo and the Société de transport de l'Outaouais have their own tickets which are not interchangeable. If you want to use passes or transfers you have to pay surcharge on express lines.
