Tel Aviv has always been a place I long to visit. Finally, this year I managed to organize a trip to Israel, but there was a slight problem. I live in Texas, but Im originally from Palestine and when customs officers saw that in my passport I had a long delay at the airport while they were checking me thoroughly. Is this a normal procedure or was it because Im a Palestinian?

I dont know what to say. Perhaps a political situation and the Middle East crisis could influence their reaction, and I understand that they had to take certain measures of precaution. Still, sometimes its hard to distinguish whether their actions are based on prejudice or a real threat because its very bad that you were put thorough whole that charade. Nowadays its very risky to be negligent, and I agree that police and customs officers do tend to treat people they consider suspicious very harshly, and I believe that I would be quite humiliated in your place, but its for the common good and since you were perfectly innocent you didnt have to worry. Ive heard about several similar cases and it seems that this has become a practice.
