I hear Florianopolis is extremly expensive

Since I will be going to Brazil this summer for a month, I would really like to see the country from all angles. I would not like to stay only near the beaches. One of the places I wanted to visit is Florianopolis, but I heard it is an extremely expensive place. Is it true, or just an exaggeration?

Let me compare: the reaction you will have if you go there when you first meet the prices is easily comparable to the reaction everyone has when they first go to see the Grand Canyon. Staying there will cost you an arm and a leg. One decent room costs almost 100$ a night, and do not try to get away any cheaper. You will, if you want to, get there via the longest suspension bridge, as the town is located on an island.
