Is it easy to hike up Jebel al-Kalaa?

Hi! I am doing some preparations for my upcoming trip to Morocco, where I am going to visit Chefchaouen among other places. Hiking is apparently a must do over there, with the Jebel al-Kalaa peak being the more popular of places to climb. Is it easy to hike up there? What do I need in terms of equipment?

Hi there! I think it is great that you are considering the hike up the Jebel al-Kalaa. We did it a few years ago, and we got some wonderful pictures, but... the trip was very exhausting. It took all day, and the fact that we had to pass through a marihuana plantation (!!) did not make it easier. Who would have thought that you could get stoned just from walking next to the plants!?

That sounds like my idea of a dream holiday! Please tell me where I can sign up! I bet the views got really spectacular after you passed through the old grass fields... I would love to hear more about your trip. And perhaps you could post some pictures up on here too?

We took our chances and did the hike, even though I was not sure that I would be up for it in advance. We went with a local guide, and that is definitely would I would recommend you as well. You will need good walking boots, clothes that will keep you warm but not too warm, and food supplies and plenty of water!
