Is tap water really that bad in Togo?

if you have been to Togo, I have got a question for you. I a, planning on going there myself in the near future, and I have been told by different people, none of which have actually been there though, that you cannot drink tap water in Togo. Is this true? Is the tap water really that bad?

The thing about the water is no joke, so do not drink tap water. Bottled water is always available somewhere nearby, and it is not expensive. If you ignore the advice and drink tap water any way, you can catch scary diseases and get sick. You can even get hepatitis though the tap water in Togo.

If you happen to have no other choice than to drink tap water, because you cannot access safe, bottled water for some reason, then please make sure that you boil the water in advance. While this does not get rid of all the impurities in the water, it certainly does make it a bit safer for you. Enjoy your trip!

Thank you for your answers! I will take that into account and not drink the tap water, for sure. But that made me think... Does this mean that I should be worried about eating food as well? Some of it might have been prepared with tap water and not be safe? What do you think about this?
