Melboune, Alice Springs and Ayers Rock Tour help

I will be going to Australia in couple of weeks and I will be staying in Melbourne. From there, I will be going to Alice Spring resort, to see all interesting things there (including Ayers rock too). So, can you tell me anything more about that destination, are there any organized tours, what should I know before I go there?

Actually, the point of the traveling is to know nothing and learn everything when you get there. At least, that was the spirit of old days, when exploration really was exploration, no today’s strolls through a jungle with a cell phone in one and McBurger in other hand. Anyway, Alice Springs is a small place dedicated to satisfy masses of tourists that come there every year. There are a lot of facilities and activities that are interesting and exciting.
