Hello everybody! My name is John and I am planning to go on a pleasure trip around Saudi Arabia. My intention is to visit Mecca, Riyadh, and Jeddah, in particular, because I have heard that there are some nice places there to go scuba diving. Is it true or not? Can anyone tell me if there are any possibilities for scuba diving in Jeddah?

Well, John, I must tell you that your intentions are really interesting and provocative. I was in Jeddah once, a couple of years ago, and I had a wonderful time there and now that you mention it, I started to think about going there again. There are several nice places for scuba diving there with excellent ambience for this activity. For me, the most interesting site to explore is the Chicken Wreck that lies at the depth of nearly eighteen meters. Be careful and wear a thick suit.

Oh, scuba diving in Jeddah is the most interesting experience I have ever had in my whole life. You certainly won’t regret doing it there because the sea is absolutely fantastic, unspoiled, untouched, with magnificent corals and diverse marine life. There are also several shipwrecks that I found quite interesting to explore. The wrecks near the Sinai Peninsula are worth while seeing. I suggest going there in summer because the water is then really hot and it is pleasant to swim and dive, unlike in winter when the water temperature goes below 20o .

When I was in Jeddah on my vacation, I visited Obhur, which is some 35 km north of the city. There are several beautiful beaches where you can find diving clubs which provide you with everything that you need for diving. You can rent boats and complete scuba equipment, with an oxygen tank always at hand. Night diving is also possible there. The southern part is much more beautiful and more interesting for exploration than the northern part. You only have to be careful because of the surface currents that run in the opposite direction of the underwater currents, even though they are not strong.
