Hi everyone. I am going to go on a tour of Vietnam next month and I am very much looking forward to almost all aspects of it. The only thing I am not so sure about is the food. I have been a vegetarian for most of my life and I really don't want to eat any meat. Is that a problem in Vietnam? What do they generally eat which does not have meat in it? Will it be a problem?

Hi. You are quite right to enquire about the matter in advance. But don't worry, they have quite a lot of various vegetable dishes available in Vietnam. One of the things I ate a lot were vegetables "wraps", a bit like the Mexican ones, with cabbages, and veg, and with a sause of plums. Vegetable soups are also popular. Their version of spring rolls is also often without meat. So don't worry. But do make it very clear what you can and can't eat.

Vietnamese food is admired all over the world. They usually used Soya sauce, Fish sauce, fresh herbs rice, vegetables and fruits in all Vietnamese recipes. They normally used in Vietnamese foods are pork, fish, chicken and different types of seafood. The Vietnamese also have a strong vegetarian tradition influenced by Buddhist values.
