Self drive safari in Zambia and Zimbabwe

This civilized world is making me sick sometimes. Thats why I decided to escape for a while and sink into the unfamiliar regions of the Dark Continent. Im going alone and Id like to keep it that way, so a self-drive safari tour through Zambia and Zimbabwe would be a great way for me to enjoy the silence. Any hints about my itinerary?

The usual practice is to either arrange a convoy of vehicles or to have a local guide as the escort. I really dont think that anybody should drive alone through such dangerous and unfamiliar palces.
