Should I use taxi in New Amsterdam, Guyana?

I have never been to Guyana but heard many things about this country. My wife and I would like to stay one week there, one week in Brazil and one week in Venezuela. We decided to stay in New Amsterdam and will travel from there. Should I use taxi in New Amsterdam, Guyana?
