The legality of coca leaves in Peru?

Hello everyone. I was wondering. Since my last visit to Peru I found something interesting. Coca leaves. You can make tea out of it and it is just a medicinal herb. But my question is: Is it legal? I heard you can make cocaine out of it. But my intention was to buy some leaves on my next trip and bring it home.

Hi mate. Well it is true. You can make cocaine from coca leaves. But the quantity of leaves you need to make just little cocaine is not even worth it. But it is illegal. At least in US. You either need special permission or you need to have the cocaine removed from the leaves.

Sadly it is illegal. But it is a medicinal herb. If you take too much it will numb your mouth, but it will never have the same effect as cocaine because it can’t travel that fast to your brain. The tea made of coca leaves is amazing and worth drinking every day. Too bad you can drink the real and unchanged stuff only in Peru.

Coca tea is a greatest thing ever. It helps with the altitude sickness and in some cases asthma. And as everyone knows by now it is illegal. But only leaves as far as I know. Candies and other stuff are legal I guess. But to be on the safe side report it to the customs.
