Can I get some advice? This year I will be spending my end of the year holidays in Africa. I am going through the list of things to prepare, to take with me, to do or not to do etc. In this context I wonder about whether I should take perfume or deodorant with me at all? Please do tell me what your experience is and why...

Good question. And as most of them, the answer is common sense really! Of course you hould take perfume and deodorant with you. It's just when you should, or should not wear them which is important. The times you will be in towns, inside, on more social occasions both are totally "de rigueur". But as soon as you are going on safari, no perfume please! The game will spot you at miles (they will already do that without perfume anyway, but don't damage their incredible sense of smell). Deodorants are fine, but the less perfumed they are, the better. Ideally: no smell at all. And although your possible BO would certainly be less offensive to the poor animals than Channel Number 5, don't be afraid: in almost all places ablution facilities are excellent!
