What are British Airways carry-on limits?

Is it true that the British Airways carry-on limit is also one cabin bag for each child? So, if the two adults are travelling with two children they are permitted to carry on board 4 bags as a hand luggage? How many bags are not to be charged if they are considered checked baggage?
