I suggest you not to wander alone at night, but to take a taxi. Don’t take some clothes that look like it is expensive or some jewelry. Bring only the necessary money with you, never the whole amount that you have brought to your trip. Never walk in suspicious and dark streets. Never enter alone into the slums that are called there favelas. Don’t take your passport with you when walking. It will be good for you to make a copy of your passport. I think it is required by Brazilian law. Have a safe trip!
