What's public transportation like in Dominican Republic?

I am going to spend some time in Dominican Republic. Maybe it is not typical place where people go to spend summer vacation. But I like to do some non typical things. Other thing is that I would like to travel a lot trough the country, but I dont want to rent-a-car. What's public transportation like in Dominican Republic? Any information is valuable.

What can I tell you about public transportation in Dominican Republic? Well, the transportation is, from my point of view, very, very good. I dont know what sort of transport would you like to use. I used buses, and I am very satisfied with them. The seats are very comfortable, employees are very nice, buses are in very good shape. They are very punctually, and you will arrive always on time. So I warmly recommend that kind of public transportation.

The Dominican Republic has a bus system that is rather reliable, and most of these public transportation vehicles are fairly comfortable. The fare is generally inexpensive, and there are bus terminals and stops in most of the island's major cities.
