Where to eat while staying safe in Lomé, Togo?

We will be in Lomé, Togo next month and everything is ready and prepared for our stay there expect for one thing - I have heard that you should be careful what you eat there or you can get sick. Could you please help me with some suggestions where we can eat and drink and stay safe in Lomé?

Great you are going to Togo! And Lome is a fascinating city to see, although it does have its downsides as well. Peeing in the street is very common, for instance. I thought spitting in the street was bad, but this is worse! Try and eat in more upscale restaurants, and even better if you can see the food being prepared in front of you.

I think the key is to make sure that your water is safe to drink, so you need to buy bottled water which is not expensive. If this is not possible for some reason, make sure you boil the water yourself in advance. With food, you need to be absolutely sure it is cooked through thoroughly and hot when you first get it.

That is indeed key if you want to try eating from the many street stalls. Often you will end up having a go at the food there, because of the simple fact that it smells delicious and looks very appealing too. And it's dirt cheap as well. Mind you, if you can resist the temptation, that would reduce your risk of getting sick.
