Where to go in Southern France?

I just came back from my holiday in the Southern France, I was in Marseille visiting some college friends. I didn’t succeed in seeing anything else outside Marseille, but I plan to go back there pretty soon, so I wanted to ask some “Southern France experts” where to go next time.

I’m not a “Southern France expert”, as you say, but last year I went to Nice, just like you, to visit my college friend who was doing her MA there. So, I tell you that you can go to Nice next time. I had a nice time, I was there during two important events for that zone – The Cannes Film Festival and a Formula 1 race in Monte Carlo, so I had a pleasure to enjoy both of them. Nice is nice, although I imagined it a bit more exclusive.
