Why locals prefer Manly Beach to Bondi Beach

Hi to you all! My wife and I are about to go off to Australia. To be precise, we are going to stay in Sydney for two weeks. I was reading up about the local beaches that are nearby, and I saw somewhere that locals prefer Manly Beach to Bondi Beach. Do you know why that is?

Perhaps that is because Bondi Beach is the ocean beach that is the closest to the city centre of Sydney? It is popular with locals and foreign tourists alike, and there is a great atmosphere over there. Getting to Bondi beach is no hassle at all, unlike Manly Beach which requires a ferry to get to.

I don't like Bondi Beach much myself, if only for the fact that it is full of British tourists that are apparently having a great time alongside large amounts of lager. Manly Beach is more quiet and the scenery is much more beautiful in my humble opinion. Go to both and judge for yourself.
