My husband and I are due to travel to Bhutan in the near future. We are hoping for an amazing experience and especially have high expectations of Jakar, where Buddhism was apparently born in Bhutan. One of the hotels we could stay at is the Sonam. Could you tell me what your impressions were of it?

Hello to you! How wonderful that you are going to Bhutan! I was there three years ago myself, and I have great memories of my time there. Jakar is definitely an amazing city to see. I think that the Sonam hotel is modest but the service is very good. What's good is that they have got a restaurant that also serves international food.

To be honest? Like most hotels you will stay in while you are in Bhutan. It is rather spartan compared to what you are used to in the west, however the staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to make sure that you have a great stay in Jakar, something you definitely will.
