Hello there. Next months Ill have some free time from my work. I am planning to spend that time traveling. One of the places Ill probably visit is Syria. Ive heard that there are some beautiful beaches. Do you people have some experience about that? Is it worth visiting it anyway? Thanks.

Well, I must tell you that you heard wrong. Beaches are nice, but full of rubbish. I dont recommend either staying there or swimming. If you have adventure spirit it is worth looking, but only that. Beaches that are placed near Turkish border can be dangerous, because of Turkish sentry. I dont advise you to wander a lot. Beach that doesnt have a garbage problem is Wadi Qandil. And it is quite attractive because of black sand. You can also try Burj Islam. It is very clean, but it is not so good place for swimming. I hope that Ive helped you. Have a good time.

I know that Syria is not so famous for its beaches, but still we would like to spend a few days on the sea.
Information about this is quite scarce on this thorntree, best I could find is maybe the qoute below.
My question is:
Has anybody visited any of the mentioned places and is it possible to get accomodation there?
How to reach them from Lattakia? buses available or taxi? We are three.

The region of Lattakia has by far the most beautiful natural scenery in all of Syria. The most scenic spots are to the north about an hour or so: Kassab (a predominantly Armenian mountain resort town), al-Samra (a small Armenian village with Syria's most beautiful beach a short way below it), Badrousiyeh and Ras al-Basit (also nice beachside villages). There is also a very nice protected pine forest just off the road to Kassab. Not quite so far away from Lattakia are Wadi al-Qandil (with an attractive black sand beach) and Burj Islam (a white stone beach). al-Hafeh (near Qalaat Salah al-Din) and Slunfeh offer some beautiful mountain scenery.
