transportation from Shanghai to Beijing

Hello! I am about to go to China. I will stay in Shanghai for a couple of days and then, I am going to Beijing. Can you tell me something more about the transportation from Shanghai to Beijing? I would like to find out what are possible means of transport to get from one place to another? How long does the trip last?

I don’t know what kind of transportation would suit you most, but I suppose you would like to avoid the plane. I don’t know why, but when someone asks what kind of transportation is available between two cities, I always think that he excludes traveling by plane because of the high price of the ticket. Otherwise, I don’t see why you wouldn’t simply fly to Beijing. That’s why I’ll skip this option though there is a direct plane between Shanghai and Beijing and, what’s more, it’s quite frequent – there is a flight every hour. However, there is a train between these cities, too. The train is luxury and dinner is provided.
